USTAE’s primary location is in Byron, Georgia to support WR/ALC, Robins AFB.  From there they also support OC/ALC, Tinker and OO/ALC, Ogden as well as WR/AFRL and AFMC at Wright Patterson AFB.  Future workload may require additional facilities physically at the other ALCs.

AMP (Aerial Multiaxis Platform) is a USAF Mantech Program.  The focus of the program is to develop a multi-use aerial work platform for large aircraft maintenance.

Current methods of accessing aircraft include stacking cranes tied to bridge cranes.  These tube within tube structures are raised and lowered with wench/cable systems.  They have not proven dependable and are limited in configuration for limited uses and access to the aircraft.

Overhead cranes are strait up and down cable/wench devices which can move parts and grossly position them.  Extended boom lifts can put workers in proximity of aircraft work.  They are limited in load, have a degree of instability, and are slow in repositioning.  Impacting the aircraft with these devices is an ongoing problem.  WR/ALC had two employees killed in 2005 when a boom lift went over.

AMP provides a very stable interchangeable work platform which can easily position three dimensionally in space.  Like a tractor is a platform which can carry a loader, a mower, a plow, or a blade, so the AMP can utilize various tools such as work baskets, depaint, module, inspection, paint, etc.

The increased speed of access to work areas on large aircraft creates tremendous efficiencies and reductions in maintenance cost and down time.

Other Aerial Lift Equipment – USTAE supplies, specifies, modifies and reconfigures aerial lift equipment for special applications to meet government needs. This includes extending reach, aircraft access, pneumatic or hydraulic devices and controls.

USTAE is manufacturing specialty scaffolding for a specific aircraft configuration.

USTAE also designs, builds, and modifies facilities, re-manufactures equipment such as fuel carts and A.P.U., and builds specialized carts for power, lighting and aircraft parts handling.
